Play and learn...

oh hoooo...it 's been ages ago since the last post..sorry guys...this mom need some re-wiring inside her brain first...too much things to do...

ok..as promise ( ages ago) i will make a post about Hot House....

what is a Hot House...i've got this new term when i saw this nice documentary about how to make our house as learning playground and produce a brainy baby and children....

From what i saw...they said that every little thing u do is a potential learning tools for the babies...

cut the long crap..let me make it into points:

  • Talking
  • Reading
  • Show Things
Talking

Talk more...yeah...ladies...i know we been born with this ''gift''...we just love to talk aka nags ...:P

but unfortunately...we choose to use our gift to nags and nags..and nags some more...

the talk that we actually need is...TALKING to BABIES...as explaining things to them all the things that we actually do.....even tho the babies only know how to smile or cry...just talk to them...and try to make this as a habits...:)

talking to babies or children..not only help to improve their ability to connects things..it also help to make the talk and boost their confident and make their brain more active...:)
i remember the things i do to my kiddos...everything that i touch..i do...i look ...i will tell them and explain...''this is onion...we need to peel the onion before we cook...'' i'm cleaning your bottom''...'' i'm washing the dishes''..and so on...i will always try to make my children be around me and make them see what i'm doing... :)

if you are watching television.. ( me..i don't have tv..i personally think tv has more bad points then goods..) but i do this things in our relative house coz they got tv...i will explain the things in tv and if the things is not good ( fighting, saying bad words, ect...) i will immediately told them that is not good...we muslim/ we brothers and sisters don't do like that...before they even register that bad thins in their head...:)

Reading

Read...read and read...anything u have on your hand..u should read it to them...newspaper...read it loud...as long as ur baby is awake...just read...u will not see the result now..but it won't be long when they will tell you all the things that u have said...and u will be surprise with ur children general knowledge...u will..coz i do...as my son..started to say things from his encyclopedia...and i just listen with amazement.. ( in my head..i don't remember telling him about this..actually i did..when he was a baby..)...masyaAllah....

Show things

things to be show...ok...Book...make your house a ''library''...please invest more in books..coz u will never regret it...if you can..everywhere the eye could see...they see books...big..small..colorful books...this will make them feel like books is part of their life...they have to see them...if not..not ''normal''...if get what i mean here...:P

then...flash cards...oh my..oh my...this is very good...numbers...alphabets...just make them see...and make it as a routine...like..before we eat session...just give a quick glance to numbers....then...after the bath...moms...u have to be creative in finding times...you don't have to do 24 hours...just 10 to 15 minutes a day...( the more the better)...but if you are working...time is a diamonds ( gold is cheaper)..:P
you don't have to buy fancy2 flashcard...make ur self...all u need is..paper..pen and scissors..like me..i just make the power points in my lappy..and tadaaaa.....ready...just click and click..:P ( modern technology for modern moms)

and..moms..please make some effort on finding things in the internet...the alphabet game...numbers...arabic alphabet....it's easy..
you can find it in youtube...in the net..just type online free toddlers/infant game...tadaaa...the list is incredibly long..:P

i will give some that u can try...see if u like it or not...

http://www.literacycenter.net/lessonview_en.php

http://www.uptoten.com/kids/kidsgames-home.html

and you can always add more to the list...but the internet is useless if your finger did not press the keyboard..:P

last but not least ...here is a very nice article about

Potty Trainning!...Say good bye to Nappy forever!

Ok...actually..all the suggested topic will have their turn in the next post...as we got 2 vote ( only 2 :P ) for potty train...i will make this topic as the first entry.

As for myself..i managed to potty train my older son at 3 yrs 2 months old....i do it in 3 days...and manage to be Nappy free day and night.. :P..well i think that's fairly good achievement :) Alhamdullillah...

let see mom...why we want to potty train them : ( moms....u can skip this if u already had ur reason..:P)
  • Save up to RM100+/month by not having to buy expensive diapers ( the main reason lah for me as i've another fellow who really need a nappy)
  • Run your errands and not have to carry a heavy diaper bag
  • Help your child build their confidence
  • Get your child ready for daycare, camp or kindergarten
  • Send your child on a sleepover and don't get embarrassed by accidents ( yar lah..esp in MIL house :P)
  • Be able to use a public restroom and not look for a changing table
  • Never feel embarrassed from the stench of a garbage can full of stinky diapers in your house again
  • Say good bye to diapers forever...oh yeahhhhhhhhhh...
SO...done with the reason...

Now...when.... let see what does expert told us : ( this is quite important yeah..)

they said that..the age ranging between 18 to 3 yrs old is the best time to potty our children...but for me...''bila mama rajin and bila mama ready..baru pandang pada anak...ready?'' hahaha
  • Does your child seem interested in the potty chair or toilet, or in wearing underwear?
  • Can your child understand and follow basic directions?
  • Can your child ask simple questions?
  • Does your child stay dry for periods of two hours or longer during the day? Does he or she wake from naps dry? ( this one lah kan...feeling very sad and rugi lah bila u take off the nappy..it's dry....and yet u have to chuck it coz rasa geli nak sarung balik..:( )
  • Does your child have fairly predictable bowel movements?
  • Does your child tell you through words, facial expressions or posture when he or she needs to go?
  • Is your child uncomfortable in wet or dirty diapers?
  • Can your child pull down his or her pants and pull them up again?
ok..if u can see here..basically if we want to potty ur toddlers... they have to at least understand a simple command...and i think this is the reason most of us choose to potty our beloved ones after 2 yrs old....actually...the older..the easier...but the earlier is better.. :).. so..moms...it's up to u all...do you want it to be easy or cost effective... :P

and the most important part...HOW.. :P

i want to share my experience first..

i personally think to potty train a baby is much more easier in Malaysia..coz we have a ''wet toilet''.. we can ask them to pee on the floor near the drainage hole.. and becoz of that..all those fancy2 small potty is fairly useless.. :P..

i started of by using a pull up pants easy to ''do and undo''..and a ask my boy every 15 minutes in day 1, 30 minutes in day 2 and 2 hours in day 3...by day 4..he told me him self when he want to pee or poop :)

for the night routine...before he went to sleep..he must wee...then at 3 i wake him for his night wee and as he wake up in the morning..another wee... u see...every time i wake him up at 3...it seems to bother him soo much..that he decided not to wee at all in the following night ( day 4)...

so..as a result..i manage to potty him in 3-4 days day n night...since then..no more nappy :)

and now..lets see what does the expert suggest :)

  • Pull out the equipment. Place a potty chair in the bathroom. You may want to try a model with a removable top that can be placed directly on the toilet when your child is ready. Encourage your child to sit on the potty chair — with or without a diaper. Make sure your child's feet rest firmly on the floor or a stool. Help your child understand how to talk about the bathroom using simple, correct terms. You might dump the contents of a dirty diaper into the potty chair to show its purpose, or let your child see family members of his or her sex using the toilet. ( ok...i did used this fancy2 thing in uk last time...it took me 1 weeks before i give up...why?..my house the is fully carpets...and when accident happen...i'll be screaming like mad...and a big tummy ( not fat but fetus)...emotionally unstable..)
  • Schedule potty breaks. If your child is interested, have him or her sit on the potty chair or toilet without a diaper for a few minutes several times a day. For boys, it's often best to master urination sitting down, and then move to standing up after bowel training is complete. Read a potty-training book or give your child a special toy to use while sitting on the potty chair or toilet. Stay with your child when he or she is in the bathroom. Even if your child simply sits there, offer praise for trying — and remind your child that he or she can try again later. ( my toilet there is a disaster...ok..forget it!)
  • Get there — fast! When you notice signs that your child may need to use the toilet — such as squirming, squatting or holding the genital area — respond quickly. Help your child become familiar with these signals, stop what he or she is doing and head to the toilet. Praise your child for telling you when he or she has to go. Teach girls to wipe carefully from front to back to prevent bringing germs from the rectum to the vagina or bladder. When it's time to flush, let your child do the honors. Make sure your child washes his or her hands after using the toilet. ( moms..if u want to potty train...u have to master this skill...peka, cepat dan tepat :P)
  • Consider incentives. Some kids respond to stickers or stars on a chart. For others, trips to the park or extra bedtime stories are effective. Experiment to find what works best for your child. Reinforce your child's effort with verbal praise, such as, "How exciting! You're learning to use the toilet just like big kids do!" Be positive even if a trip to the toilet isn't successful.( this is very useful lah... but for me...my boy don't fancy stickers as rewards..he want lolly's )
  • Be consistent. Make sure all of your child's caregivers — including baby sitters, child care providers and grandparents — follow your potty-training routine. ( it's a MUST...jgn sat buat..sat tak...nanti tak jalan)
  • Ditch the diapers. After several weeks of successful potty breaks, your child may be ready to trade diapers for training pants or regular underwear. Celebrate this transition. Go on a special "big kid" outing. Call close friends or loved ones and let your child spread the news. Once your child is wearing training pants or regular underwear, avoid overalls, belts, leotards or other items that could hinder quick undressing. ( me...my boy is happy when other people praise him...''wah haris very cleaver...no more nappy..big boy...)
  • Treat mistakes lightly. Accidents are inevitable — especially when your child is tired or upset. When it happens, stay calm. Simply say, "Uh-oh. There was an accident. Let's change you. Pretty soon you'll remember to use the potty chair every time you have to go."( me..this one...memang fail la...marah aje...but for that 3 days ..memang tak marah...so dia tak stress...happy...potty trian berjaya :) )
  • Sleep soundly. Most children master daytime bladder control within six months of starting potty training. Nighttime control may take months — or years — longer. In the meantime, use disposable training pants or plastic mattress covers when your child sleeps.
  • Know when to call it quits. If your child resists using the potty chair or toilet or isn't getting the hang of it, take a break. Chances are he or she isn't ready yet. Try it again in a few months. ( yap..u need to know when to start...and please moms..don't give up...just re try in the next few months :))
ok moms...i think i've done my best for this important topic..:).. now i want to hear about other people success in potty training their toddlers... may be new ways and ideas... :)

GOOD LUCK moms :) hope this post helps :)

PS: moms..u can print the potty chart or you can just go to ( http://www.childavenue.com/pages/family_corner_pages/printables.html ) to dl and print :) )
